In Memory of our Freedom…

By Tonya Chenworth

This country was not established on socialism--where people who are poor because they made poor choices can lay their consequences on the backs of those who are hard working and made decent choices. This bailout is not American. This bailout spits in the face of liberty and responsibility. People should have the freedom to make choices and the guts to take responsibility for those choices. This is the land of the free and the home of the brave, not the land of the free-loaders and the home of the cowards!

This country was not established on democracy—where the majority always wins, even when they’re wrong. Too many people want to take the easy route. It’s easy to trade freedom, and the responsibility that goes with it, for security and insulation from failure and bad choices. If a girl makes a bad choice and gets pregnant out of wedlock, she can now turn to the government for rescue from her consequences. If an employee doesn’t want to sacrifice for his/her own children and pay the high price of health insurance, he can get ‘free’ healthcare for his children from the government. If a family wants to live beyond their means and spend more than they have, they can do it at the expense of their neighbors, courtesy of the government. Too many citizens are standing in line for the free handouts. Too many are voting for politicians who promise such things. Look where this has gotten us!

This country was established as a Republic—where the good guys can win even when they’re outnumbered. Those who say no to social programs and actually don’t use them are few indeed. These are the ones who deserve freedom or liberty. These are the ones who have the courage to face the consequences of their choices no matter what it costs them. These are the ones who established this country, the ones who made it great and the only ones who have a chance to save it. It’s time for this minority to speak out. We, the true minority, are against the social programs that plague our land. This is a republic. We want this to be the land of the free and the home of the brave forever. We will not be frightened into surrendering our freedom.
